* How can we make the world work for 100% of humanity in the shortest possible time through spontaneous cooperation with out ecological damage or disadvantage to anyone?

* How do you define adequate quality of life-a decent living standard for all?

* What is the technology

These are the question that created GENI – Global Energy Network Institute. The GENI Initiative focuses on linking renewable energy resources around the world using international electricity transmission.

Today’s Giving Warrior is the founder of GENI, Peter Meisen.

Peter Meisen comes from San Diego CA, and considers himself a global citizen having flown around the world several times delivering his work. He graduated from the University of California at San Diego, with an engineering degree in Applied Mechanics and Engineering Sciences. For the past 30 years he has worked in social engineering and sustainable development.

How Dr Buckminster Fuller Changed My Life: Peter gives us a background story to GENI – a presentation at the community college, the choice of his college major, and one very inspiring book.

~ Be Concerned About Your Environment: The way we’ve used fossil fuels for the last 100 years has made us wealthy. Earth’s energy needs will double in the next 30 years. It’s time to pay heed to our surroundings.

~ Why Electricity?: Without adequate amount of electricity, we wouldn’t be able to live. Half a billion people still don’t have access to it. Peter tells us about a possible future – harnessing wind, solar and geothermal energy from the earth to provide electricity to 100% of humanity.

~ Electricity Economy: The economics of transitioning to energy that is expensive today, but the most sustainable, is complicated. Peter weighs the pros and cons of utilizing renewable energy in developed and developing countries.

~ Ministries and Monopolies: Who distributes electricity in each country? Do countries collaborate to share and use electricity? What are the advantages of competition in the industry? Peter explains the advantages of global cooperation to harness renewable energy.

~ Connecting Rural Areas: A power line passes over a village, but cannot drop a cable there because the village cannot afford it. The solution? Micro grids and inter-village connections.

~ Make the Switch: Fossil fuel power plants have a lifespan of 50 years. The challenge is to make a transition to wind and solar energy in an efficient, fast manner to have a positive impact on the environment. Which countries move faster than others? How does a country meet its power needs over a 24 hour span solely through renewable energy?

~ The Earth in 20 years: Renewable portfolio standards, meetings at the UN, feed-in tariffs for wind energy – the future looks promising.  Peter Meisen tells us why.

If you take a stand on something, others see the opportunity to make a difference. Students and seniors want to give back. GENI’s outreach is what inspires Peter Meisen to work for a better world.

Giving Warriors means…
